Program Background
E-Mediat will deliver cutting-edge new media training to non-government organizations (NGOs) and civil society organizations (CSOs) throughout the MENA region. This project is administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE) West Coast Center and sponsored by The Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, Office of the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) of the United States Department of State with support from Microsoft Corporation. Within this dynamic public-private partnership, IIE has engaged many of the world’s foremost new media experts and companies to contribute to building a comprehensive training program.
This project will provide technical support and training on new media for civil society to 150 - 250 NGOs and CSOs across five countries : Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, UAE and Yemen. The E-Mediat program will provide basic digital infrastructure, specialized training, and an online learning community (OLC) to assist the organizations in their communications strategies and ultimately foster more pluralistic and participatory societies including women and youth. The training, coaching and mentoring opportunities offered through e-Mediat training will empower participating organizations with the knowledge, skills and support to use new media technology to tell their stories, build their membership and support bases, and connect to a community of peers around the world.
Scope of Work
The E-Mediat Training Coordinator (Coordinator) is responsible for supporting the project in Morocco in the areas of coordination of logistics, program reporting and evaluation and training/support of CSOs and NGOs. Responsibilities include : supporting implementation and daily operations ; conducting some of the e-Mediat training and technical assistance to NGOs and CSOs through the project’s training partners ; assisting with organizing in-country workshops ; assist partner organizations to design and implement trainings to the community ; assist with recruitment, coaching, digital infrastructure, and communication with partner organizations ; assist with supplemental webinar training ; posting to the Online Learning Community ; supporting the launch and maintenance of a NetSquared group ; and assist with planning end-of-program Boot Camps/National Meetings. This is a full-time contract position reporting directly to a local Country Director. The Country Director and Coordinator will work from offices at a local partner. They will participate in an intensive 10-day program launch and training-of-trainers to be held in Beirut where they will receive training from IIE, Microsoft and new media experts.
Specific areas of responsibility and skills required include :
- Technical and Organizational Skills : The Coordinator will be responsible for the following : providing training support and technical assistance including assisting in conducting trainings ; organizing all logistics related to the trainings and workshops ; working with the e-Mediat strategist and Country Director to ensure successful program implementation and promotion ; and providing technical support to training partners for setting-up and maintaining well-functioning computer labs.
- Training Skills : The ideal candidate will have some interest or experience in new media tools and training. With support from IIE (including CD-ROM course materials and training), the Coordinator will :
* support the Country Director with five 2-3 day training sessions over the course of one year in each of 4-5 locations throughout Morocco for approximately 15-20 individuals at each location. The training will include the following modules : 1) new media overview and strategic planning ; 2) websites and blogs ; 3) social networks and online communities ; 4) digital film and activism ; and 5) text messaging and civic engagement ;
* assist with individual technical assistance to CSOs and NGOs participating through site visits, phone calls and webinars in addition to the 5 training sessions ;
* support the Country Director with arranging and/or conducting training to CSOs and NGOs on Microsoft Office Live tools and basic digital infrastructure in preparation for the five days’ training sessions ;
* support and offer other trainings on an ad-hoc basis and depending on need.
- Community Outreach : Coordinator will assist the Country Director in promoting the e-Mediat training to all key stakeholders in the community. This will include but is not limited to, meetings with Government officials, private sector companies, international and local NGOs, CSOs, schools and press.
- Recruitment Skills : Coordinator will assist the Country Director in identifying training partners in approximately 3-5 geographically diverse locations where trainings could be held and 15-20 organizations interested in participating in the trainings at each training site.
- Background/Experience :
* A Bachelor’s degree is required ;
* Experience or interest in conducting training workshops ;
* Experience in using a range of new media tools ;
* Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite ;
* Fluency in English, Arabic and French ;
* Excellent writing skills (English Arabic and French) ;
* Presentation skills ;
* Detail-oriented ;
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, requiring frequent and timely email and phone communication with multiple partners ;
* Ability to work independently and self-motivate ;
* Ability to travel regularly in-country and to the regional training-of-trainers workshop.
