The Organization

Search for Common Ground (SFCG) is an international non-profit organization that promotes peaceful resolution of conflict. With headquarters in Washington, DC, SFCG’s mission is to transform how individuals, organizations, and governments deal with conflict - away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions. SFCG seeks to help conflicting parties understand their differences and act on their commonalities.

With over 400 staff worldwide, SFCG implements projects in 23 countries and has offices in 19. SFCG’s programs are in Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, and the United States.

Program

Common Ground Productions (CGP), a division of Search for Common Ground, creates innovative television, radio, and Internet programming for the reduction or prevention of conflict. CGP’s role is to provide support to all domestic and international Common Ground Media initiatives, as well as to create projects unique to CGP as the organization’s production unit. Whether countering "hate radio" in Africa or hate crimes in the United States, Common Ground Productions is dedicated to harnessing the power of the media for peace and progress.

Summary of Position

Reporting to the Executive Producer, and as part of the Common Ground Productions team, the MENA Line Producer will be responsible for producing locally the episodic drama called The Team. This person will liaise with the country offices as needed. The Team is currently being produced by CGP on radio or TV in many countries worldwide. The MENA Line Producer will have a key logistical role in this long-term project.

Responsibilities

- Producer will supervise writing, pre-production, production and post production as assigned by Executive Producer on an as needed basis
- Producer will be charged with keeping the production on schedule and on budget in coordination with SFCG Country Directors and with CGP Executive Producer
- Ensure full compliance with SFCG’s internal, as well as donors’ policies and procedures, in coordination with SFCG’s Finance and Operations Departments in Washington, DC

As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

- FLUENCY in ARABIC and ENGLISH is a must. French is highly desirable
- Five (5) years of relevant work experience as a line producer in episodic drama
- Experience as a screenwriter highly desirable
- Experience as a teach either in film school, university as staff or guest lecturer on TV production and/or writing for television is highly desirable.
- Provable knowledge of budgeting, scheduling (EP - preferable i.e. Entertainment Partners - scheduling and budgeting software which is industry standard)
- Strong writing skills
- Ability to work to strict deadlines without direct supervision and coordinate and compile information from various sources
- Willingness to regularly travel on short notice
- Experience working outside of country of origin, particularly Arab speaking countries
- Experience embedding a social message within entertainment programming, especially with a focus on youth and in the developing world
- Strong interest in conflict transformation, peace-building and SFCG’s mission
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a diverse multi-cultural team with employees throughout the organization
