iEARN-USA is currently seeking a qualified Resident Director to work in Morocco on a yearlong language program for US high school students, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. The Morocco program, part of the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y), is focused on Arabic language acquisition at the Ange Bleu School in El Jadida, Morocco.
ANTICIPATED EMPLOYMENT DATES : September 15, 2010 - to mid June 2011 (on a part-time basis).
The Resident Director (RD) represents iEARN-USA and MEARN (Moroccan Education and Resource Network) in his/her activities during the tenure of their appointment. The RD must be available to program participants on a weekly basis ; observe participant classes at the host school ; be available via phone to students in case of emergency ; and work with MEARN to arrange local cultural programming (i.e. cooking classes ; concerts ; local excursions) once a month for students. The Resident Director must be available to participants during emergencies should they arise and communicate bi-weekly with MEARN and the iEARN-USA program staff in New York City. Responsibilities include logistics for the group while overseas, communications, counseling of individual students when needed, and troubleshooting. Resident Directors report to the NYC-based Program Manager and the MEARN Program Director.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor’s degree or higher ;
- Fluent English language skills, Advanced Arabic language skills- as well as local Moroccan dialect ;
- Study, work, or extensive experience in Morocco and with Moroccan culture ;
- Familiarity with US high school life and culture ;
- Experience overseeing and guiding teenage groups preferred ; and
- Demonstrated skills in academic and personal counseling.
Compensation : TBD commensurate with experience.
